One of the core styles of TRG Communities is to create imaginative places with inspiring streetscapes, home styles, pocket parks, and amenities. The fruit of creating imaginative places is that it encourages our community members to get outside and walk! Many of our community residents enjoy the perks of being able to walk to the park, church, or even a neighbor’s home. We have already seen that walkable communities are healthier and safer places to raise a family. New research may also suggest additional benefits.

A new study from Stanford University has found that walkable communities may be the perfect remedy for your writer’s block or be an extra booster for your imagination! The research found that participants who were walking generated more creative ideas compared to those who were sitting. They also found that walkers generally had more thoughts and were more talkative. This may help explain why the new creative class is often found in many of these inspiring and walkable communities.  These folks may not be more creatively capable, but are at a distinct advantage because they have convenient and inspiring walkable places to boost their creativity.

It is exciting to know our walkable and inspiring communities encourage our families to be safer, healthier, and now more creative. So get out there and take a walk!
